Information about Bydgoszcz

Bydgoszcz is the largest city of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship and its capital at the same time. It has a population of 383 thousand. It is proud of its 659 years of tradition. Bydgoszcz is beautifully situated on the Brda River and the Vistula River in eastern part of the city.
 
Culture thrives in the biggest cultural institutions in th region, i.e. Ignacy Paderewski Pomeranian Philharmonic, Opera Nova and Teatr Polski (theatre). The facilities attract art lovers from around the world, organise festivals and competitions, the main ones include: Bydgoszcz Music Festival, Musica Europa Orientalis Festival, Bydgoszcz Opera Festival and Artur Rubinstein in Memoriam International Festival of Young Pianists. Bydgoszcz also boasts beautiful museums: District Museum, Museum of Polish Diplomacy and Emigration, Museum of Bydgoszcz Railway Junction, Museum of Traditions of Pomerania Military District, BWA Gallery and Museum of Pharmacy.
 
Undoubtedly, Bydgoszcz delights with its beautiful budilings. You can see wanderful sights while walking around the city. One of the biggest is a parish church, an example of the Vistula Region Gothic. The Old Town with granaries and boulevards, the so-called Old Port, is very attractive for tourists. A worth-seeing place is also Wyspa Młyńska (miller’s island) which is an exteremly pictuersque nook of Bydgoszcz. In the past, there was the only mint in the Polish Kingdom.
Two resiliently operating universties are the showpieces of the city: Casimir the Great University and University of Technology and Life Sciences. There is also the only medical univestity in the region, namely Collegium Medicum of Toruń’s Nicolaus Copernicus University. Academy of Music equally enjoys great fame and recognition.
